Lab Studies:
No lab studies were needed at this time.

Other Studies:
Three-view hand x-ray series was ordered. Right hand x-rays displayed a non-displaced, longitudinal lucency of the ulnar sesamoid bone at the volar aspect of the first metacarpophalangeal joint. Radial sesamoid was difficult to visualize on our x-ray series. Case Photo #1 Case Photo #2

Consultations:
Based on the x-ray and clinical exam, we suspected a combined ulnar and radial sesamoid fracture of the right hand. As such, we looked into the literature of how to manage such a presentation and discovered if the thumb flexion and abduction range of motion was intact, conservative management with casting the thumb in 30 degrees of flexion was warranted. With this, we consulted orthopedic surgery to see if they agreed and they did, that surgical management was not necessary at this time.
