AMSSM LIBRARY OF SPORTS ULTRASOUND PATHOLOGY
Objective An educational resource of high-quality, de-identified images and videos displaying common and unique sports ultrasound pathology in case format. Anyone is welcome to submit cases. Pes Anserine Bursitis A 48-year-old previously-sedentary male presented with 3 weeks of right anteromedial knee pain with running. On examination of his right knee, there was full ROM, normal ligamentous exam, no joint line tenderness, but positive tenderness to palpation over pes anserinus.

Proximal Adductor Tendon and Muscle Tears A 32-year-old male soccer player presented with acute right groin pain while kicking a ball 3 days prior. Exam was notable for tenderness to palpation over proximal right adductor longus and pubic tubercle, pain with resisted adduction with hips in both neutral and flexed positions, and full ROM.

Morel-Lavallee Lesion of the Lateral Hip A 38-year-old female runner presented with diffuse right hip pain for 3 days. She fell on her right side at mile 10 of a 50 mile race and slid along the trail. She had immediate onset pain, and noted swelling thereafter. Exam showed visible swelling and an abrasion. Full ROM and strength of the hip were noted without deficits.

Baker's Cyst A 62-year-old female presented with one month of atraumatic right posterior knee swelling. Her exam was normal except for noted mild popliteal fossa swelling.

Elbow UCL Tear A 16-year-old right-hand-dominant male baseball pitcher presented with acute onset right medial elbow pain while pitching during a baseball game. Exam of his right elbow displayed tenderness to palpation of the medial elbow immediately distal to the medial epicondyle, and pain and laxity with valgus stress test and milking maneuver.

Achilles Tendon Rupture A 38-year-old female was unable to bear weight on her left leg after landing on her foot while playing volleyball. She felt a pop with resulting pain in her calf. There was a palpable deformity proximal to the Achilles insertion and minimal ankle plantar flexion was notedon the Thompson test.

Sagittal Band Injury A 38-year-old female presented with a right hand injury that occurred 1 month ago when she crushed her long finger knuckle in between a sled and the ground while snow sledding. Examination of the 3rd MCP joint demonstrated swelling at the dorsal aspect, pain with flexion, and snapping at the knuckle.

High Ankle Injury (AITFL Tear) A 16-year-old male high school football player presented with left ankle pain after sustaining an inversion injury with notable instability and physical exam findings concerning for a high-ankle injury.

Proximal Patellar Tendinosis and Partial Tearing A 15-year-old male basketball player presented for bilateral anterior knee pain for 2 years, insidious in onset, worsening over time, and provoked by running and jumping. Exam showed tenderness to palpation over the inferior pole of both patellae and proximal patellar tendons, with intact extensor mechanisms and no extension lag noted.

Distal Intersection Syndrome A 70-year-old right hand dominant female presented with dorsal radial wrist pain, distal to the radiocarpal joint. Symptoms started after a distal radius fracture and worsened with wrist extension and thumb movements such as texting.
