American Medical Society for Sports Medicine For Immediate Release May 12, 2011		Back
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The American Society for Sports Medicine announced its new Board of Director Members and Society Officers during the 20th Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah from April 30-May 4, 2011. Dr. Cindy Chang, from the University of California at Berkeley, was installed as the new President of the organization, assuming the leadership position served the last year by Fran O’Connor, MD, Associate Professor with Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Md., who will assume the role of immediate past president. Jonathan Drezner, MD, Associate Professor at the University of Washington, was elected Vice President, John DiFiori, MD Associate Professor, UCLA, was elected as Second Vice President and Katherine Dec, MD, with CJW Sports Medicine in Richmond, Virginia, became the Secretary/Treasurer of the organization. Amy Powell, MD, of the University of Utah, Tom Trojian, MD, of the University of Connecticut, and Ty Wadsworth, MD, of St. Louis University, were installed as new members on the Board of Directors, while Sean Bryan, MD, of University of South Florida, Baycare Health System; Chad Carlson, MD, of Stadia Sports Medicine in West Des Moines, Iowa; and Suzanne Hecht, MD, of the University of Minnesota, were re-elected for a second term. The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) is a multi-disciplinary organization of physicians whose members are dedicated to education, research, collaboration and fellowship within the field of Sports Medicine. Founded in 1991, the AMSSM is now comprised of over 1,800 Sports Medicine Physicians whose goal is to provide a link between the rapidly expanding core of knowledge related to sports medicine and its application to patients in a clinical setting.
