Stopped Cold: The Missed Blockage That Benched A Collegiate Running Back - Page #3

Lab Studies:
Emergency Department labs: CBC, BMP, LFTs, CK, coagulation studies, and Lyme titer - all normal.

Other Studies:
In the Emergency Department, right upper extremity US noted abnormal “sluggish flow" throughout the upper extremity but was negative for clots. CTA of the chest was negative for any occlusion, thrombosis, stenosis, soft tissue mass, or inflammation.

CTA of the right upper extremity ordered at orthopedic follow-up noted "minimal patchy, early venous return to the brachial and axillary veins," but was otherwise normal. Repeat right upper extremity US was positive for deep vein thrombosis in the subclavian and axillary veins. Case Photo #3

Consultations:
Vascular Surgery was consulted following diagnosis of clot given contributory thoracic outlet syndrome and the potential for right brachial plexus neurolysis and paraclavicular right first rib resection.
