A Not So Classic Case Of A Tibial Pain In A Distance Runner - Page #3

Other Studies:
Plain radiographs <a href="CaseStudyImages/CS1UnusualPresentati-698.jpg" title="Case Photo #1" data-lity><b>Case Photo #1</b></a> , MRI <a href="CaseStudyImages/CS2CS1UnusualPresent-698.jpg" title="Case Photo #2" data-lity><b>Case Photo #2</b></a> <a href="CaseStudyImages/CS3CS2CS1UnusualPres-698.jpg" title="Case Photo #3" data-lity><b>Case Photo #3</b></a> , and CT <a href="CaseStudyImages/CS4CS3CS2CS1UnusualP-698.jpg" title="Case Photo #4" data-lity><b>Case Photo #4</b></a> [Photo5] were ordered over the following week and the findings supported the initial clinical diagnosis of a stress fracture. Imaging revealed a cortical defect with minimal reactive edema. The patient was prescribed a period of rest refraining from running or strenuous activity and regular dosing of anti-inflammatory medication. At the 3-month follow-up, the patient noticed no significant improvement in pain. Repeat radiographs <a href="CaseStudyImages/CS6CS5CS4CS3CS2CS1Un-698.jpg" title="Case Photo #6" data-lity><b>Case Photo #6</b></a> and MRI <a href="CaseStudyImages/CS7CS6CS5CS4CS3CS2CS-698.jpg" title="Case Photo #7" data-lity><b>Case Photo #7</b></a> <a href="CaseStudyImages/CS8CS7CS6CS5CS4CS3CS-698.jpg" title="Case Photo #8" data-lity><b>Case Photo #8</b></a> were performed. Results showed the lesion had increased in size and had penetrated the intramedullary space.

Consultations:
Because of the persisting symptoms and change in appearance of the lesion on imaging, a referral to an orthopedic oncologist was established. A repeat MRI with contrast was conducted prior to the scheduled bone biopsy.
