Lab Studies: D-Dimer trended from 7.85 to 3.64 Other Studies: Right knee and tibia/fibula radiographs were normal Case Photo #1 . Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) without contrast of the RLE Case Photo #2 Case Photo #3 revealed a partial-thickness tear of the medial head of the gastrocnemius at the myo-aponeurotic junction, with large intramuscular hematoma. A venous duplex scan of the RLE found an acute partially occluded DVT of the peroneal vein at the mid-calf. Serial venous duplex scans of the RLE were performed and showed recanalization of the clot. Consultations: Orthopedic surgery was consulted and they recommended that the partial thickness tear of the medial head of the gastrocnemius be managed nonoperatively. Click here to continue.
