SUMMIT OVERVIEW:

Health disparities regularly impact populations that have historically been underserved and underrepresented in their access to health care and to the quality of care they receive. These inequities have been shown to negatively affect health outcomes and quality of life. This conference will emphasize specific areas within sports and exercise medicine where health disparities have been previously identified or where they need to be further investigated, and it will also highlight best practices for conducting meaningful research in the field of sports and exercise medicine through an equity lens. The goals of the Summit are to:

  1. Identify current knowledge gaps regarding the impact of health disparities in SEM and establish  appropriate priorities for targeted research in this space.
  2. Identify important methodological considerations and approaches for SEM researchers when conducting health disparity research  or implementing health disparity metrics into SEM research more broadly.

REQUESTS FOR CHILDCARE/COMPANION CARE NEEDS

As recipients of the NIH R13 conference grant in partial support of this Summit, the AMSSM CRN has limited funds to help support participants  who may have childcare or companion care needs on the day of the summit, that would otherwise prevent them from participating. If you are in need of support of this kind during the Summit, please reach out to the AMSSM Research Program Manager, Sarah Sund no later than March 10th, 2023.
