SUMMIT DESCRIPTION

Regular physical activity enhances muscular and bone strength, improves cardiorespiratory fitness, and reduces the risk of hypertension, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, depression and several cancers. While the benefits of physical activity are well-known, it is not widely promoted within physician practices. Reasons may include: 1) insufficient training during medical education, 2) inadequate clinical models to incorporate physical activity counseling into practice.

SUMMIT GOALS

AMSSM is hosting a summit to examine exercise medicine and physical activity promotion to define the current evidence, knowledge gaps and research priorities in two areas: 1) medical education related to exercise medicine and physical activity promotion, and 2) clinical models that best promote exercise medicine and physical activity promotion in practice. This summit will be a major step toward broadly and effectively integrating exercise medicine and physical activity promotion into the practice of practicing sports medicine physicians.

In keeping with the mission of the AMSSM AND ITS CRN, AMSSM members will receive a reduced registration fee.
