AMSSM CRN Bridge Funding for Future Clinical Trial Grant
The AMSSM Collaborative Research Network (CRN) is pleased to announce the release of theBridgeFunding for Future Clinical Trial Grantrequest for proposals (RFP). This RFP replaces the 2021 “Stephen I. Katz Bridge to R34” RFP and allows greater flexibility for investigators to pursue future extramural funding. Instead of focusing on future funding solely through a NIAMS R34 grant, this new award aims to allow investigators to consider funding opportunities most closely aligned with their proposals including, but not limited to: NIH, PCORI, DoD, or other Foundation grants.
As part of its mission, the CRN aims to help investigators obtain future extramural funding for conducting high quality and impactful research in topics of relevance to sports medicine physicians. The purpose of this $150,000 RFP is to solicit research projects that will prepare a team of investigators to compete for future, extramural funding for a large-scale clinical trial. Investigators must demonstrate preparedness and capability to eventually meet the rigor required to conduct a high-caliber clinical trial. The topic selected for study should align with AMSSM/CRN’s mission and the mission of the targeted funding agency. The CRN will work closely with the investigative team to complete their initial project and to develop a future application, with the ultimate goal of obtaining funding for a sufficiently-powered clinical trial. For more details regarding projects of interest, please see the RFP.
Deadline: March 18, 2022
Questions: Please address all questions and clarifications related to this RFP or the CRN to the AMSSM Research Program Manager,Sarah Sund, or Chair of the AMSSM CRN, Irfan Asif, MD.
AMSSM Foundation Minority Research Grant
The purpose of the AMSSM Minority Research Grant is to provide research opportunities specifically for historically underrepresented minorities in biomedical research to advance representation across diverse backgrounds and promote health equity in sports medicine research.
Grant awards are designed to provide support for promising, innovative research projects. The PI's institution or practice is expected to provide all necessary basic facilities and services that normally would be expected to exist in any institution or practice qualified to undertake such research. Per AMSSM policy, overhead or indirect costs will be supported to a maximum of 10% of direct costs. The total amount of available funding is $10,000 and the research committee seeks to award one project. Grants will be awarded for a one-year cycle length.
The Research Committee welcomes applications to fund start-up or pilot projects and will consider partial funding of projects if matching funds have been secured. All matching funds should be explicitly stated in the budget. The PI will assume full administrative, fiscal, ethical, and scientific responsibility for the conduct of the project.
A mentor from the AMSSM research committee will be assigned to each winner to assist and monitor grant winners' progress.
