Radiographs of the left ankle during the initial emergency department visit demonstrated a posterior malleolar fracture. Case Photo #1

At the second emergency department visit, a computerized tomography scan of the left lower extremity was performed which illustrated a comminuted midshaft / proximal fibula fracture.

At the sports medicine office, further radiograph evaluation of her ankle, foot and tibia/fibula also demonstrated a comminuted midshaft / proximal fibula fracture, however, was negative for fractures of the foot. Case Photo #2 , Case Photo #3 On ankle mortise stress view, the medial joint space was widened confirming a Maisonneuve fracture. Case Photo #4 , Case Photo #5 , Case Photo #6

Ultrasound with dopplers was negative for deep venous thrombosis.
