News RELEASE
AMSSMâ€™s Response to the Boston Marathon Tragedy		Back
The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine’s thoughts and condolences go out to all of those affected by the tragic events in Boston, and particularly those families and individuals with injury or loss of loved ones. In this setting of such a senseless tragedy, there were many selfless first responders, medical personnel and bystanders who helped in courageous ways. Having an attack during a large sporting event with innocent victims can make us feel vulnerable and uncertain. There are member physicians of the AMSSM who are medical directors and volunteer as physicians at marathons nationwide, including the Boston Marathon. AMSSM is proud of its members who assisted the Boston EMS personnel in their inspiring medical response at the event. The AMSSM is committed to the health and safety of participants at marathons and other sporting events.
