Patient Presentation:
The patient was injured on kickoff coverage

History:
The patient was an 18 year old male, who suffered a severe right lower extremity injury on a kickoff at the end of the first quarter of the season opening football game. He had made a tackle with his foot planted when an opposing player rolled onto his right leg. The patient fell to the ground and was in obvious significant pain. Medical personal was immediately called to assist the injured player.

Physical Exam:
Initial assessment revealed an obviously disfigured right lower leg, with the ankle significantly externally rotated in relation to the leg. The patient’s leg was stabilized, while his right shoe was removed so we could assess neurovascular status. A strong dorsalis pulse was palpated. Sensation to light touch was intact, and the patient had full motion of the toes of the right foot. The foot was warm and appeared well-perfused with good capillary response. Inspection and palpation of his right leg revealed no open fractures.
