OVERLAND PARK, KANSAS: Dr. Paul Stricker was recently informed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) that his text “ Sports Success Rx! Your Child's Prescription for the Best Experience: How to Maximize Potential and Minimize Pressure ”, published in 2006 in conjunction with the AAP, has received a prestigious book award. "Sports Success" won an Honorable Mention award at the Midwest Independent Publishers Association's 2006 Midwest Book Awards. More information's at www.mipa.org, but according to its Web site, these book awards attracted an unprecedented 146 nominations from 65 publishers in ten of the twelve Midwestern states in the region. The 69 award-winning titles come from 35 different publishers representing all ten states.

In his family-friendly book, Sports Success Rx!, Dr. Stricker outlines for parents and coaches the physical, chemical, and mental milestones that determine sports skill development in youth. Many unrealistic expectations and pressures stem from a lack of knowledge about the sequential maturation of these skills. With a better understanding of that developmental highway, parents and coaches can all help kids have a more positive and reality success experience of personal improvement and accomplishment.

Dr. Stricker is an active member in the American College of Sports Medicine, a Charter member and Past-President of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) was organized in 1991 by physicians who recognized the need for an organization within the field of sports medicine that approached athletes, exercising individuals and teams comprehensively with consultative and continuous care of their orthopedic, medical, nutritional and psychosocial issues. Although sports medicine concepts are often thought of in conjunction with professional and elite athletes, these concepts apply to athletes of all levels including grade school, high school, college and recreational athletes. AMSSM is comprised of over 1000 Sports Medicine Physicians whose goal is to provide a link between the rapidly expanding core of knowledge related to sports medicine and its application to patients in a clinical setting.
