Author: Kartik Sidhar, MD Co Author #1: Sourav Poddar, MD Senior Editor: Christian Fulmer, DO Editor: Ryan Lurtsema, MD Patient Presentation: Right heel pain History: A 22-year-old female collegiate dancer presented for evaluation of chronic right medial heel pain without prior injury. Symptoms were first noted 9 months prior to presentation and were described as a sharp pain at the medial aspect of the heel, just below the medial malleolus. The pain radiates to the mid-plantar region of the heel. The patient further described the pain as a burning sensation within this distribution and was worsened with weight bearing. Physical Exam: Right Foot/Ankle: Inspection: No erythema, ecchymosis, or swelling noted Palpation: Tenderness to palpation noted approximately 2cm below the medial malleolus over the soft tissue; mild tenderness to palpation over the medial origin of the plantar fascia. No other bony or soft tissue tenderness appreciated. Ankle Range of Motion: Within normal limits in all planes Ankle Strength: 5/5 strength in all planes Special Tests: Syndesmotic squeeze test negative Click here to continue.
