American Medical Society for Sports Medicine

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Rachel B. Brewer, MD was co-awarded the annual Best Case Presentation at the 20th Annual Meeting of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, in Salt Lake City, Utah, held April 30 – May 4, 2011.


Dr. Brewer’s case, “Hit Off Balance” was chosen from the 24 cases presented at the Annual Meeting. Her presentation discussed a case of left-sided superior canal dehiscence syndrome, which was traumatically induced during weightlifting in a 21-year-old college football.


AMSSM had over 195 cases submitted this year, said Dr. Suzanne Hecht, Chair of the Research Committee. A plaque and a $500 prize are awarded each year to the presentation deemed most outstanding by a review panel of physicians on the Research Committee.


Dr. Brewer is a second-year Pediatric Sports Medicine Fellow at the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.


The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) is a multi-disciplinary organization of physicians whose members are dedicated to education, research, collaboration and fellowship within the field of Sports Medicine. Founded in 1991, the AMSSM is now comprised of over 1,800 Sports Medicine Physicians whose goal is to provide a link between the rapidly expanding core of knowledge related to sports medicine and its application to patients in a clinical setting.
