AMSSM Member Discusses New Concussion Law in California

Alan Shahtaji, DO, was featured in two news segments, San Diego 6 and KPBS, regarding California's new concussion law and its impact on sports.

The legislation prohibits high school and middle school football teams from conducting more than two full-contact practices per week during the preseason and regular season. The bill also prohibits the full-contact portion of a practice exceeding 90 minutes in any single day and completely prohibits full-contact practice during the off-season.

Dr. Shahtaji is a board-certified family medicine doctor. He provides primary care for patients of all ages, including preventive care and treatment of acute and chronic diseases.

He is on staff at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) where he continues to work in family and sports medicine.
